Where to buy in Gipsy Hill
September 29th, 2008 by | Filed under Gipsy Hill.Gipsy Hill got its name because it was the area where gipsies lived in the 17th century. Margaret Finch, known as the Queen of the gipsies, settled there in 1730. The gipsy community lived there until the beginning of the 19th century when they were driven out. In the mid-19th century the West End of London and Crystal Palace Railway came to Gipsy Hill and that led to a swift residential building development in the area.
Gipsy Hill itself contains red brick Victorian mansion blocks and also terraces of Victorian houses. There are Victorian houses in adjoining roads such as Camden Hill Road and Highland Road. Highland Court is a 1930s Estate. There are desirable houses to be found in Oaks Avenue. Salters Hill contains council properties as well as Victorian properties.
