Much of this was redeveloped just before the First World War with neo-Georgian houses, which are to be found in streets such as Cardigan Street and Courtney Square and Street. More Georgian style houses were built just east of Kennington Road. Denny Crescent Denny Street and Chester Way are among the most sought-after streets in Kennington. close to the Imperial War Museum. Outside the Duchy of Cornwall estate, Walcot Square and West Square have genuine Georgian and early Victorian houses overlooking gardens. There are also Georgian houses in Walnut Tree Walk. Cleaver Square with its attractive period houses is near the junction with Kennington Lane. There is mainly council housing between Kennington Road and Kennington Park Road. But there are terraces of small Victorian houses near the junction.
Albert Embankment has also been developed with the conversion of office and commercial buildings into flats, including Salamanca Square and Parliament View, a new block near Lambeth Bridge.
Past the Oval, Clapham Road goes south. There are some streets of Victorian houses to the west including Fentiman Road and Richborne Terrace. There are also Victorian houses in Hanover Gardens near Oval Tube station and the streets like Handforth Road east of Clapham Road. Further east there are a variety of different house types, although Vassall Road contains some large Georgian houses.
