Where to buy in Muswell Hill
September 29th, 2008 by | Filed under Muswell Hill. The most sought-after streets in Muswell Hill are the streets around Highgate Wood and Queen’s Wood to the south of Muswell Hill Broadway. There are large family houses to be found in Onslow Gardens, Woodland Rise and Gardens, Connaught Gardens, Wood Vale and Muswell Hill Road. Nearby off Muswell Hill is the Rookfield Estate (also sometimes called Garden Village) which is a small development of houses in the Arts and Crafts style, built in the early part of the 20th century.
There is a conservation area west of Muswell Hill Road in the Fortis Green area. This contains mainly Edwardian houses in Grand Avenue and the roads off it as far as Midhurst Avenue, including Collingwood, Leaside, Birchwood and Fortismere Avenues. Streets to the west from Fortis Green Road down to Cherry Tree Wood are also generally Edwardian or large houses in the Arts and Crafts style. There are mansion blocks on Fortis Green Road. North of Fortis Green Road there are other attractive enclaves in the so-called “county” roads, named after county towns, such as Lincoln Leicester and Bedford roads. These are generally Victorian terraces.
North of Muswell Hill Broadway there are tree-lined roads with large Edwardian houses in the streets running from Duke’s Avenue up to Alexandra Park Road. Above Alexandra Park Road towards Colney Hatch Lane there are less attractive terraces, but still Edwardian. Between Colney Hatch Lane and Coldfall Wood the streets off Cockpits Road such as Sutton Road and Green Road also contain attractive houses. On the other side of Coney Hatch Lane there are a variety of different housing types including ex-council and small terraced houses. There are semi-detached houses to be found north of Muswell Hill golf course in the Bounds Green area and also north of Alexandra Park.
